Although the Austrian Olympic Committee was not founded until 1906, Cisleithanien , the western part of Austria-Hungary , took part in the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896 . The committee established for the Olympic Games in Athens for Austria , chaired by Johann Nepomuk Graf Wilczek , Eduard Graf Lamezan-Salins and Theodor Harmes, was responsible for sending the athletes . A total of three athletes from Austria took part, all of whom won medals.
