Germany participated in the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens , Greece with a delegation of 21 athletes and was the third most successful team at the Games.

Medals

At the Games in 1896, the Olympic champions received a silver medal and those placed second received a bronze medal. The third place came away empty-handed. The International Olympic Committee has now recognized the contemporary placements as gold, silver and bronze medals.
