Carl Galle

Carl Galle or Karl Galle (born October 5, 1872 in Berlin , † April 18, 1963 in Berlin-Pankow ) was a German athlete .

Life

The only 1.54 m tall Galle took part in the 1500-meter run at the Olympic Games in Athens in 1896 . He was also registered for the marathon and the soccer tournament , although in 1896 there was ultimately no soccer tournament. In the 1500 meter run, Galle was fourth of eight competitors behind Edwin Flack , Arthur Blake and Albin Lermusiaux . Nevertheless, he received a bronze medal because he "crossed the finish line on the same level as the third man".

Galle was active at the Berlin soccer club Germania 1888 from 1894 to 1899 and, in addition to soccer and athletics, also ran cricket and tennis . The trained telegraph technician had six children with his wife Ida. On the occasion of the 1960 Olympic Games , he traveled to Rome as the guest of honor of the NOC of the GDR .
