Berthold Küttner (* 1870 in Stettin ; † unknown) was a German rower .

Career

Berthold Küttner started for the Academic Rowing Club Berlin-Grünau (ARV). In 1896 he was delegated to the Summer Olympics with Alfred Jäger in a double scull.

The rowing competitions were scheduled for April 13th in the port of Piraeus . Since the competition from Greece and Italy did not start due to the weather conditions, Berthold Küttner and Alfred Jäger were presented with the bronze medal by Prince Georg of Greece , President of the Olympic Organizing Committee and Chairman of the Subcommittee for Nautical Sports.

Then Berthold Küttner and Alfred Jäger went to the cycling track, where they made themselves available to the eventual winner Adolf Schmal as a pacemaker in the 12-hour race .

Notes and individual references

  1. At the Olympic Summer Games in 1896, silver medals were awarded for the winner and bronze medals for the runner-up, but Küttner and Jäger received a "bronze winner's medal". Possibly this was an additional cost-saving measure in the rowing area, see Karl Lennartz (Ed.): Olympische Siege. Medals, diplomas, honors. Sportverlag, Berlin 2000, ISBN 3-328-00865-9 , p. 99 ff.
