Germany took part in the VII Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo in 1956 with an all-German team of 63 athletes (11 women and 52 men). The team consisted of 52 athletes from the Federal Republic of Germany and eleven athletes from the German Democratic Republic .

Standard bearer

The bobsleigh driver Andreas Ostler carried the flag of the all-German team during the opening ceremony.

Medals

The German participants were able to win a gold and a bronze medal, placing Germany ninth in the medal table.
