Ernst Trautwein

Ernst Trautwein (born April 8, 1936 in Füssen ) is a former German ice hockey player and coach . He is one of the most successful players ever to emerge from EV Füssen .

Career

Ernst Trautwein began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the junior department of EV Füssen, with whom he was German ice hockey champion a total of eight times (1956–1959, 1961, 1963–1965) . He also won the Spengler Cup in Davos with his home club in 1964 . In the 1960/61 season he was the top scorer in the ice hockey Bundesliga with 34 goals in 28 games .

Because of his decisive goals in the Olympic qualifying games against the GDR, Trautwein has long been called the "GDR killer". He is a member of the Hall of Fame Germany .

Between October 1969 and March 1970 he was the German national coach and achieved 14 victories in 17 games with the national team. This means that he still has the best points average of all German national coaches.

In the 1980/81 season he took over the coaching position at his home club EV Füssen. In the 1984/85 season he trained EA Kempten from the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga .

International

For Germany , Trautwein took part in the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo , 1960 in Squaw Valley and 1964 in Innsbruck . He also took part in nine world championships. In total, he scored 42 goals for the national team in 111 games.
