Siegfried Weiß (cross-country skier)

Siegfried Weiß (born December 18, 1933 in Furtwangen in the Black Forest ; † March 13, 2013 in Simonswald ) was a German cross-country skier .

Weiß grew up near Gütenbach . He won nine German championships in cross-country skiing and took part in the four Winter Olympics from 1956 to 1968.

In 1956 in Cortina d'Ampezzo he achieved 10th place out of 14 teams started with the men's 4 × 10 km relay . His teammates were Cuno Werner , Rudi Kopp and Hermann Möchel . During the games in the American Squaw Valley , he was temporarily in 10th place in the 50 km race , but slipped to 24th place due to wax problems. He achieved this rank four years later in Innsbruck . In 1968 he entered Grenoble , for the first time in one of two German teams, again in the 50 km race and reached 43rd place. In 1972 he retired from competitive sports and from then on lived in Simonswald .

Siegfried Weiß died at the age of 79 after a serious illness. He was buried in the Simonswald cemetery.
