Sweden took part in the VII Winter Olympics in 1956 in the Italian municipality of Cortina d'Ampezzo with a delegation of 58 athletes in eight disciplines, including 50 men and 8 women. With two gold, four silver and four bronze medals, Sweden was the sixth best nation at the Games.

The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the ski jumper Bror Östman .
