1976 Summer Olympics / Participant (Sweden)

Sweden took part in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal with a delegation of 116 athletes (99 men and 17 women) in 90 competitions in 16 sports.

The Swedish athletes won four gold medals and one silver medal, with Sweden taking twelfth place in the medal table. Olympic champions were the athlete Anders Gärderud over 3000 meters obstacle, the cyclist Bernt Johansson in the road race, the fencers Hans Jacobson , Carl von Essen , Rolf Edling , Göran Flodström and Leif Högström in the team competition with the epee and the sailors John Albrechtson and Ingvar Hansson in the Tempest . The silver medal went to the water diver Ulrika Knape from the 10-meter tower. The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the wrestler Jan Karlsson .
