Lars-Erik Skiöld (born March 19, 1952 in Malmö , † before May 22, 2017 ) was a Swedish wrestler . He was the winner of the bronze medal at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow and European champion in 1976 in Leningrad in Greco-Roman. Lightweight style.

Career

Lars-Erik Skiöld started as a teenager when Ringer club Kävlinge GOIF with the rings . He later moved to Kulladals BK and started fighting for BK Envig in 1976 . He developed into an excellent wrestler in Greco-Roman. Style that achieved great international success as a junior. At the age of seventeen he took second place in the class up to 56 kg body weight at the Junior World Championships in 1969 in Boulder , Colorado, and in 1970 and 1972 he was European Junior Champion in Huskvarna and Hvar .

From 1972 Lars-Erik competed regularly in international senior championships. In the first few years, however, he had to take note that no matter how big success in the junior age is, it is no guarantee of big success with the senior. In the years from 1972 to 1974, the 5th place at the world championship in Katowice in 1974 was his best result. At the European Championships in 1975 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein , however, he won his first international senior medal, the bronze, in the lightweight. He won over the world class athletes Binjo Tschifudow from Bulgaria and Ștefan Rusu from Romania .

1976 was a very successful year for Lars-Erik, as he became the European lightweight champion in Leningrad . He achieved a sensational victory over the Soviet favorite Shamil Chissamutdinow . At the Olympic Games in Montreal that same year , Lars-Erik was on the safe course for medals when he lost to Markku Yli-Isotalo from Finland , whom he had previously defeated on all possible occasions. After another defeat against the Romanian Ștefan Rusu, he had to be satisfied with the medalless 4th place.

At the 1977 World Cup in Gothenburg , Lars-Erik won victories over Andrzej Supron from Poland , Erol Mutlu from Turkey and Károly Gaal from Hungary . Heinz-Helmut Wehling from Rostock , however, relegated him to 2nd place with a sure win.

In 1978 and 1979 Lars-Erik did not achieve any major successes at the international championships. It was all the more gratifying for him that he was able to win an Olympic medal at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow . Lars-Erik initially won four fights there, but then lost to Ștefan Rusu and Andrej Supron and won the bronze medal .

After 1980, Lars-Erik Skiöld, who was actually a driver, but concentrated exclusively on this sport during his wrestling career, ended his international wrestling career. He was the head coach for wrestling at the sports club IK Sparta Malmö .
