Kävlinge [ ̌cɛːvliŋə ] is a village ( tätort ) in the southern Swedish province County Skåne and capital of the homonymous municipality .
history
The settlement was probably created on the basis of a flat spot in the Kävlingeån river . The Swedish troops rallied near it in 1676, and shortly afterwards fought the battle of Lund against the Danes . Later a bridge was built in the same place. Kävlinge first became a minor town (köping) and when the municipality was reformed in 1971 it became the main town of the municipality, which was merged with the former municipality of Löddeköpinge.
traffic
Kävlinge was and is an important railway junction. First the line to Malmö was built , which was opened in 1886. In the same year a section to Lund and in 1893 the line to Landskrona were inaugurated. After 1906 routes to Sjöbo and Barsebäckshamn were built , but they were closed around 1950 as they did not prove to be worthwhile.
In April 1996 a train with ammonia wagons derailed in Kävlinge . As a result, around 9,000 people had to be evacuated, which was one of the most extensive evacuations in Sweden in modern times.
