Kävlingeån [ ̌cɛːvliŋəoːn ] (also Lödde å ) is a river in the southern Swedish province of Skåne län and the historic province of Skåne . Along with Helge å and Rönne å, it is one of the three major rivers in the province. The length is about 50 km (with the source inflow about 90 km). The catchment area covers 1203.8 km². The river flows through the municipalities of Sjöbo , Lund , Eslöv and Kävlinge .

River course

Coming from Lake Vombsjön , Kävlingeån flows calmly and broadly to the west, past the villages of Harlösa , Revingeby , Flyinge and Gårdstånga . After crossing under the European route 22 , the river north of Lund experiences a bend in a south-westerly direction. At this point, near the town of Lilla Harrie , Swedish troops crossed the river on December 4, 1676 to fight the Danes in the Battle of Lund . After flowing through the eponymous town Kävlinge , the river flows past Örtofta and Löddeköpinge (which is why it is also called Lödde å in this section), only to flow north of Bjärred into Lomma Bay a little later . The area in its mouth is a nature reserve .

Tributaries are the Klingavälsån and the Bråån . The source river is Björkaån , which feeds Vombsjön in the northern part of Sjöbo municipality from the east.
