Lomma is a small town ( tätort ) in the southern Swedish province County Skåne and the historical province Scania . Lomma is the capital of the municipality of the same name .
history
According to many historians, Lomma is the place mentioned in a royal letter in 1085 under the name Lumaby . At that time, most of the transports in this region were made over the Höje å river , at the mouth of which Lomma is located. The settlement was built on a natural harbor where goods were reloaded and customs duties were levied. With the expansion of Malmö , Lomma lost some of its trading rights.
Already in 1682 loam was quarried near Lomma and processed in a brick factory. In 1854 the businessman Frans Henrik Kockum opened another clay pit, which for a long time was one of the largest in Skåne . For a long time the annual production was around 2.5 million bricks and also led to an expansion of the port, as the bricks were transported from here. Today you can only find traces of the clay pits. Some clay pits were filled to the brim for many years as landfills and then covered with earth. Others collected groundwater and rainwater and became ponds northwest of the town.
In 1872 a cement factory was built that employed up to 350 people in the summer months. Later on, asbestos cement was also produced, in particular corrugated roof tiles, called Eternit tiles, and in the 1970s this production caused a sensational scandal. After many employees were diagnosed with cancer and there were also several deaths to complain about, it turned out that the plant managers had known the harmful effects of asbestos long in advance. The investigation into this case is still ongoing. The factory, as well as the ROCKWOOL factory next to it, were later razed to the ground, but fragments of cement and bricks can still be found along the beach.
Until the completion of the bridge over the Lomma Au, which is called Höje Å (Au) further upstream, the goods were brought across the river by ferries.
The former Småort Alnarp , one of the headquarters of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences ( Sveriges Lantbruksuniversitet, SLU), has belonged to Lomma since 2015 , while a somewhat separate residential area (Habo Ljung) north of Lomma Au (Höje Å) towards Bjärred vom Statistiska centralbyrån is now designated as a new Småort .

Lomma has a popular sandy beach called Lomma Beach with a good view of Copenhagen , the Øresund Bridge and the Turning Torso skyscraper . In front of the Turning Torso, the 138 meter high "Kockums crane" was a special feature. The well-developed marina is mainly used by the locals as a berth for their boats, while local fishermen have their places in front of the bridge to Bjärred. The fishermen were called "Sillasnickare" because they fished sill (herring) in summer and worked as snickare (carpenter) in winter. There is also a pier , 3 campsites Lomma, Norra (north of the Au) Lomma Södra (south of the Au ) and Habo Ljung (north of the Au) as well as a mini golf course at the northern campsite. Between Lomma Norra and Habo Ljung, two of the above-mentioned ponds (clay pits) are only 100 meters from the beach, which is used as a nudist beach between Lomma Norra and Habo Ljung.
