history

Långa Bryggan in Bjärred

The settlement was established at the end of the 19th century as a bathing resort for Lund . There used to be larger apple orchards in the village, but today this area is built on. In 1899 the construction of an eleven-kilometer-long railway line to Lund began. The line was supposed to be electrified right from the start, but since the new technology was not very familiar, the decision was made to use a traditional construction. After opening on June 27, 1901, until electrification in 1916, the railway operated with steam locomotives . As it turned out that the line was not profitable, the line was shut down in 1939 and the track dismantled a year later. Today only the former station building still exists, which now houses a café and a youth center.

Football World Cup 1958

In the district of Bjärreds Saltsjöbad, the accommodation of the German team for the 1958 World Cup was located in a remote, small family hotel .

Attractions

A 500-meter-long bathing jetty (Långa Bryggan) protrudes from the local beach into the Öresund . A bathhouse and restaurant were built on it in 2003. The settlement is also known for the good view of Malmö , the Öresund Bridge and Denmark .
