Italy took part in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal with a delegation of 210 athletes (183 men and 27 women) in 122 competitions in 20 sports.

The Italian athletes won two gold, seven silver and four bronze medals, placing Italy in 14th place in the medal table. Olympic champions were the foil fencer Fabio Dal Zotto and the water diver Klaus Dibiasi from the 10 meter tower, who was also the flag bearer at the opening ceremony.
