Vittorio Algeri (born January 3, 1953 in Torre de 'Roveri ) is a former Italian cyclist and current sports director .

Athletic career

In 1976 Vittorio Algeri started at the Olympic Games in Montreal and finished eighth in the road race . In the same year he became Italian champion in the street race of amateurs and won the Settimana Ciclistica Lombarda in the amateur class, in which he had finished second the year before. In 1975 Algeri was also at the start of the International Peace Tour and finished 30th in the overall ranking.

In 1977 Algeri became a professional and developed into an all-rounder on rail and road . His start in the new profession was successful with a stage win on the Tour of Belgium . In 1980 he became the Italian championship points race . On the road, Vittorio Algeri was second behind Bernard Hinault at Gent-Wevelgem in 1977 and won the Coppa Bernocchi in 1984 , which was also considered the Italian road championship . He competed eight times in the Giro d'Italia , his best placing was 14th in 1977 . In 1978 he won a stage. In his career as a professional driver, he recorded a total of 10 victories.

Professional

After retiring from active cycling in 1987, Algeri worked as a sports director, u. a. at Team Milram and Domina Vacanze . Since 2012 he has been with the new Australian team GreenEdge Cycling Team .

Vittorio Algeri is the younger brother of former cyclist Pietro Algeri .
