Massimo Podenzana

Massimo Podenzana (born July 29, 1961 in La Spezia ) is a former Italian cyclist and current sports director .

As an amateur , Massimo Podenzana was particularly successful in the team time trial . At the UCI Road World Championships in 1985 in Giavere del Montello , he finished third with the Italian team. The following year he was runner- up in Colorado Springs with the Italian team and won the Giro della Valli Aretini .

From 1987 to 2001 Podenzana was a professional . In 1993 and 1994 he was Italian road racing champion. In 1993 he won the Gran Premio Città di Camaiore , in 1994 the Trofeo Melinda and in 1995 the Giro della Toscana . He started five times in the Tour de France ; In 1996 he won the 15th stage. At the Giro d'Italia 1994 he was seventh overall.

After finishing his career as an active cyclist, Massimo Podenzana became sporting director a. a. at Mercatone Uno , the team he last raced for, and at Ceramica Flaminia . Since 2011 he has been the sporting director of the Type 1 Sanofi Aventis team .
