Blind Illusion is a thrash metal band from San Francisco , California that formed in 1979, split in 1989, and reunited in 2008.

history

The band was founded in 1979 by the student Marc Biedermann (vocals, electric guitar). A short time later, bassist Alvin Petty and drummer Bret Hern joined the band. Petty was replaced by Les Claypool a short time later . In the early 1980s, singer David White (now with Heathen ) joined the band. In 1983 the line-up of the band changed again: guitarist Pat Woods, bassist Gene Gilson and drummer Mike Miner joined the band. Several appearances in the San Francisco Bay Area followed . They also recorded some demos, which, in combination with many appearances, greatly increased their popularity.

In the mid-1980s, David White left the band to play for Heathen. Pat Woods took over his position for a short time, only to leave the band a short time later. Mark Biedermann took over the post of singer. In addition, the bassist Les Claypool returned to the band to replace Gene Gilson. They then released a demo that was produced by Kirk Hammett . Then John Marshall joined the band as the second guitarist. After his departure in 1987, he was replaced by Larry "Ler" Lalonde ( Possessed ), so that the line-up was complete again for the time being.

In the summer of 1987, after a few demos and local appearances, the band reached a deal with Combat Records . With this label they released their debut album The San Asylum in 1988 . The release was followed by a tour before the band split up in 1989. Claypool and LaLonde dedicated themselves to the band Primus . In the same year Marc Biedermann began working on a second album, which was to be called The Medicine Show . However, it was never published because he was unsatisfied with the result of the recording.

In 2008 the band got together again. Marc Biedermann was again the singer and guitarist, Robert Nystrom played the drums and Danny Harcourt the bass.

The album Demon Master was released in 2010.

style

The playing of the guitars in particular has a special value in the band, as it is technically demanding and the main focus is on this. Playing the bass is also important, with the sometimes complicated rhythms of Les Claypool being used. This form of Thrash Metal is often described as "Progressive Thrash Metal". The songs also borrow from psychedelic rock and funk .
