Pierino Gavazzi

Pier-Mattia "Pierino" Gavazzi (born December 4, 1950 in Provaglio d'Iseo , Brescia ) is a former Italian cyclist and former sports director .

Pierino Gavazzi was a professional from 1973 to 1992 and one of the dominant sprinters in the peloton . The greatest success of his long career was the victory at Milan – Sanremo in 1980. Three times - in 1978, 1982 and 1988 - he was also Italian road racing champion. As a sprinter, he was able to win numerous stages and achieve top places in points evaluations of tours. In total, he was able to achieve 60 victories in his career as a professional driver.

From 2006 to 2009 Gavazzi was the sporting director of the Amore & Vita-McDonald's cycling team .

Pierino Gavazzi is the father of the racing cyclists Mattia and Nico Gavazzi . He is not related to the professional cyclist Francesco Gavazzi .
