Mattia Gavazzi (born June 14, 1983 in Iseo ) is an Italian racing cyclist . Gavazzi is considered a strong sprinter. He has been linked to doping several times during his career .

Life

Mattia Gavazzi is the son of the 1980 Milan-San Remo winner Pierino .

In 2004 he won the tenth stage of the junior stage race Giro d'Italia Dilettanti . In the same year he tested positive for cocaine at the Trofeo Papá Cervi di Gattatico, was banned for 14 months and had to complete a rehab program.

After his suspension he received his first contract with an international cycling team , the Italian Professional Continental Team L.PR, in 2006.In the course of his further career he won numerous sections of international stage races in the elite, but also the one-day race Giro della Toscana in 2013 and the overall standings in 2015 the Tour of China II .

His career was interrupted again in 2010, as in April 2010 he was again provisionally suspended by the Italian Cycling Federation for abuse of cocaine and initially banned as a repeat offender for six years. In March 2012 this ban was reduced to 30 months because Gavazzi had cooperated with the National Doping Agency of the National Olympic Committee of Italy (CONI) .

In April 2016 it was announced that Gavazzi had tested positive for cocaine again in the summer of 2015,
