Francesco Gavazzi (born August 1, 1984 in Morbegno ) is an Italian racing cyclist .

Career

In 2003, Francesco Gavazzi won a stage in the small Italian tour Giro della Valle d'Aosta . At the end of the 2005 season he then drove as a stagiaire with the UCI ProTeams Lampre-Caffita . In 2006 he was the Italian road champion of the U23, won a stage in the Giro Ciclistico d'Italia and the U23 edition of the Giro della Toscana and came fourth in the U23 road race of the road world championships .

For the 2007 season, Gavazzi was signed by the Italian ProTeam Lampre-Fondital . He won his first international elite-class cycle race in 2009 with Around Nuremberg Old Town . In 2010 he won a stage of the World Tour race Vuelta al País Vasco and the semi-classic Coppa Agostoni . In 2011 he won another stage of the Tour of the Basque Country and at the Vuelta a España when he defeated Belgian Kristof Vandewalle in a sprint from a large group of leaders .
