Tour of Beijing

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tour of Beijing ( Eng . Beijing Tour , Chinese 北京 职业 公路 自行车 赛) is a former Chinese road bike race .

The stage race was presented in November 2010 and from 2011 it was held over five stages. The race was the penultimate or last competition within the UCI WorldTour and the only one that was held on the Asian continent.

A race under the same name was held in 2002 and 2003.

In September 2014, the President of the World Cycling Federation Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Brian Cookson announced that the 2014 edition would be the last for the time being. There are many reasons for this: the race is organized by the Global Cycling Promotion (GCP), which is owned by the UCI; this fact has been criticized as a conflict of interest. It was also not possible to bring the race to profit. In addition, according to Cookson, the air pollution in Beijing is too great a burden for the athletes.
