Beñat Intxausti Elorriaga (born March 20, 1986 in Amorebieta-Etxano ) is a former Spanish cyclist .
Athletic career
Intxausti began his international career with the Spanish Continental Team Grupo Nicolas Mateos . In 2008 and 2009 he was under contract with the ProTeam Saunier Duval-Prodir and its successor team Fuji-Servetto. In the 2010 season he won the individual time trial of the Vuelta a Asturias , now driving for the Basque Euskaltel-Euskadi team .
For the 2011 season he switched to the Movistar team , for which he finished tenth in the overall ranking of the Vuelta a España 2012 . At the Giro d'Italia 2013 , Intxausti wore the overall leader's pink jersey for one day . He was also able to win the mountainous 16th stage from Valloire to Ivrea in a sprint from a leading group ahead of Tanel Kangert and Przemysław Niemiec . He finished eighth in the overall ranking. In the same year he won the Tour of Beijing . At the Giro d'Italia 2015 he won another stage by winning the difficult mountain climb to Campitello Matese as a soloist .
Intxausti then moved to Team Sky in 2016 , where he was under contract until 2018. Since that year he has suffered from an infection with the Epstein-Barr virus and was unable to match his previous results. Intxausti ended his active career after the 2019 season with Euskadi Basque Country-Murias .
