Cesare Del Cancia

Cesare Del Cancia (born May 6, 1915 in Buti , † April 25, 2011 in Pontedera ) was an Italian cyclist .

Cesare Del Cancia was a professional from 1935 to 1941 and again in 1946 after the Second World War , but could no longer succeed. The greatest success of his career was the victory at Milan – Sanremo in 1937.

In 1936 Del Cancia won Milan – Turin and the Tre Valli Varesine race , and in 1938 the Giro del Lazio . At the Giro d'Italia in 1937 he won a stage and was fifth in the overall standings, in 1938 he wore the Maglia Rosa for eight days , won two stages and was seventh in the overall standings, in 1939 he finished eighth.

When Cesare Del Cancia died in April 2011 at the age of 95, he was the oldest living bearer of the Maglia Rosa.
