The Federation of Arab Republics participated in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal with a delegation of 26 male athletes in seven competitions in four sports. A medal was not won.
The delegation was originally larger, but after three days of competition, Egypt joined the boycott of numerous African countries protesting against New Zealand's participation . New Zealand's rugby team had played against South Africa's team in the run-up to the games and thus violated the “sports embargo” imposed because of its apartheid policy.
