Tord Filipsson

Tord Ingemar Filipsson (born May 7, 1950 in Floda , Katrineholm ) is a former Swedish cyclist .

Athletic career

Filipsson started as an amateur for the Skaghalls CK. With a height of 196 centimeters and a weight of 85 kilograms, he was one of the most conspicuous drivers in the field. Filipsson became world champion in the team time trial on the road in 1974 with Sven-Ake Nilsson , Bernt Johansson and Lennart Fagerlund . In this discipline he had already won the bronze medal with the Swedish team the year before. As a junior he was able to win his first title in a Swedish championship (individual time trial) in 1968. He was considered a specialist in time trial competitions. Between 1975 and 1977 he won the Swedish championship in the individual time trial . In the team time trial, he was twice successful with his club in the championships. With the Swedish team, he won the Scandinavian team time trial championship five times. In April 1975 he was able to defeat the entire GDR elite in a time trial.

In 1975 he achieved an important victory in a tour by winning the Tour of Sweden (6-Dagars).

Filipsson started in 1976 (24th) and 1977 (26th) in the International Peace Tour . His best result in a foreign international stage race he had in 1975 with third place in the Tour of Great Britain . In 1974 the Swedish world championship quartet started the GDR tour and made a very strong impression with places 2 for Nilsson, 7 for Johansson, 8 for Filipsson and 9 for Fagerlund.

At the Olympic Games he took in 1972 in Munich, in part, he started there in the team time trial (5th place), as well as in 1976 in Montreal , where the Swedish quartet finished 7th.

In 1978 he ended his active career.

Private

Filipsson is the brother of Sylvia Filipsson, who competed in speed skating three times at the Winter Olympics (1972, 1976 and 1980) .

Filipsson was inducted into the Hammarö Arena Wall of Fame in 2017 .
