Gerrit de Vries (cyclist)

Gerrit de Vries (born May 13, 1967 in Oldeberkoop , Friesland) is a former Dutch cyclist and world champion in cycling .

Athletic career

At the UCI Junior World Championships in 1984 and 1985, he won bronze in the team time trial with the Dutch team. In 1985 he won a stage of the Tour of Poland . A year later he won the gold medal at the UCI Road World Championships in the team time trial.

He won the Grand Prix Faber in Luxembourg in 1987. Also in 1987 he started in the International Peace Tour and was 22nd in the final ranking, a year later he was there again, but retired. In 1988 he started at the Summer Olympics in Seoul and finished eleventh in the team time trial with the Netherlands team. The following year he became a professional driver in the Superconfex team , in which Rolf Gölz also drove. De Vries competed seven times in the Tour de France , his best result being 34th in 1991. As a professional, he won a few races, mostly criteria . In 1997 he ended his career with the Polti team .
