Luca Colombo (born December 26, 1969 in Cantù ) is a former Italian cyclist and world champion.

Athletic career

In 1987 Luca Colombo became Junior World Champion in the team time trial . The following year he finished second in the Italian championship of amateurs in the individual time trial , and in 1990 he won the title. The big and powerful Colombo (1.90 meters, at competition times 78 kilograms) was particularly successful as a team driver on the road: 1991 in Stuttgart (with Flavio Anastasia , Gianfranco Conti and Andrea Peron ) and 1994 in Agrigento (with Cristian Salvato , Gianfranco Contri and Dario Anriotto ) he became world champion with the Italian road four. At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona , the team (Peron, Contri, Anastasia) won the silver medal. At the International Peace Race he started with the entire world championship quadruple in 1992, but there he did not make it into the top 30 drivers in the overall standings despite some top stage placements. He was 36th, in 1990 he was placed 68th in the tour.

In 1995 Colombo turned professional , but could not gain a foothold as such. In 1995 he was third in the Giro d'Abruzzo . In 1997 he started in the Tour de France and gave up during the 13th stage. He then ended his professional career.
