Lennart Fagerlund

Lennart Fagerlund (born April 2, 1952 in Nässjö ) is a former Swedish cyclist .

Athletic career

His first success was winning the overall ranking of the 6-Dagarsloppet in the youth class in 1967. As an amateur , he started for the Mariestadt cyclist. His first significant success was the victory in the Nordic Championship for Juniors in road racing in 1970. Despite offers from the professional scene, Fagerlund remained an amateur during his career.

Fagerlund became world champion in the team time trial on the road in 1974 with Sven-Åke Nilsson , Bernt Johansson and Tord Filipsson . In this discipline he had already won the bronze medal the year before with the Swedish team (with Leif Hansson in place of Johansson).

He started twice at the UCI World Championships in road racing, in 1973 he was 22nd, in 1978 he was 56.

In 1979 he was able to win the title at the Swedish championship in road racing. In the team time trial, he was three times Swedish champion with his club. With the Swedish team he also won the Scandinavian championship in team time trial three times. He had his best placings in international stage races in 1973 with 12th place in the Tour of Great Britain in a stage win. Fagerlund also started the International Peace Race in 1977 , but had to end the race prematurely after a fall.

He took part in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and finished the road race in 42nd place.

Professional

After his sporting career, Fagerlund worked as a physical education teacher at a school in Uddevalla .
