Gunnar Wilhelm Göransson

Gunnar Wilhelm Göransson (born September 14, 1933 in Norrköping ; † April 22, 2012 ibid) was a Swedish cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

After he was third in the Tour of Sweden (Sex-Dagars) in 1955 , he was able to improve to second place in two stage wins the following year. He was also able to achieve a podium position in the Tour of Austria with third place. The Swedish Federation nominated him as a participant in the Summer Olympics in Melbourne , where he was classified 31st in the road race in the victory of Ercole Baldini . In 1957 he won the Tour of Austria and continued the successful series of Swedish successes after Lars Nordvall in 1955 and Roland Ströhm in 1956won the tour. 1958 was his most successful season. He became Swedish champion in the road race , the oldest and longest won (more than 300 kilometers) one-day races in Sweden, the Mälaren Tour (Mälaren Runt) and won at the Nordic Championships two gold medals (in the road race and in the team competition).
In 1960 he was again a participant in the Summer Olympics in Rome and was 26th in the victory of Viktor Kapitonov . With the Swedish four, he finished fifth in the team time trial . In 1961 he started the International Peace Tour and finished 6th in the overall ranking. He won the team time trial championship twice. At that time, the times of the best three drivers of a club in the individual time trial over 50 kilometers were added to determine the champions.
