Michel Bechet (cyclist)

Michel Bechet (born July 8, 1941 in Theuville , † February 20, 2019 in Senneville ) was a French cyclist and world champion in cycling .

Athletic career

At the beginning of his career there was victory in the individual time trial Grand Prix de France 1959, which he was able to repeat in 1962. The greatest success of his career followed a year later, when he won the team time trial with the French team at the UCI Road World Championships (with Georges Chappe , Marcel-Ernest Bidault and Dominique Motte ). He was also second at the Circuit de la Sarthe . At the French championship of amateurs , he finished second in the road race . He won the title of French team time trial champion in the summer of 1963. He celebrated another victory at Paris-Barentin , followed shortly afterwards by a stage success in the Route de France . Bechet was also able to win a national title on the track, in 1962 he was the winner in the team pursuit . After a serious fall, he ended his career in 1963.
