Jan Schur
Jan Schur (born November 27, 1962 in Leipzig ) is a former German racing cyclist .
Athletic career
The son of cycling legend Täve Schur became world champion in 1989 with the GDR team over 100 kilometers. He experienced the high point of his career at the Summer Olympics in Seoul in 1988 , when he and the team, together with Uwe Ampler , Mario Kummer and Maik Landsmann, became Olympic champion over 100 kilometers. For this success he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in Gold. Like almost all road drivers in the GDR, Schur also started on the Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle track in Berlin. There he won the "International Two-Team Championship" in 1988 with Andreas Lux as a partner.
After the reunification he tried his hand at various Italian professional racing teams before he had to end his career after a sports accident. In December 2007, in an interview with the Leipziger Volkszeitung , he confessed that he had been a Stasi informant for many years. He acted since 1981 under the code name "IM Reinhold". According to his statements, since the end of 1988 he has not had any more informal talks with the State Security of the GDR, which then ended the cooperation in 1989. However , he rejected doping in the GDR . He threw away the Oral-Turinabol tablets.
Familiar
Not only was his father a cyclist, his brother Gus-Erik Schur (* 1965) also worked for the SC DHfK Leipzig for a few years, like himself .
Professional
At the end of the 1990s, Jan Schur ran a small sports hotel in Schierke , “Täve's Sporthotel” (now “Waldschlösschen”).
From 2001 to 2006 Schur studied sports science at the University of Leipzig . He has the A coaching license for cycling. Since 2004 he has been the managing partner of Jan und Täve Schur GmbH.
