André Noyelle
André Noyelle (born November 29, 1931 in Ieper , Belgium ; † February 4, 2003 in Poperinge , Belgium) was a Belgian cyclist .
Noyelle was a professional from 1953 to 1966 and was able to achieve a total of 48 victories during that time. His greatest successes, however, date before his professional career. In 1952 he was runner-up at the World Championships for Amateurs and won the gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Helsinki in the same year both with the team and in the individual road race. In June 1966 he ended his sporting career.
Until Greg van Avermaet's success in 2016, Noyelle was the only Belgian who managed to win a gold medal in an Olympic single road race. Because of this success, he was voted Belgian Sportsman of the Year and awarded the Trophée Nationale du Mérite Sportive , which can only be received once in a lifetime.
