Lode Wouters

Lode Alphonse Wouters (born May 27, 1929 in Klein-Vorst ; † March 25, 2014 in Geel ) was a Belgian cyclist . He was Olympic champion in the team competition in 1948 .

Career

Lode Wouters was the Belgian amateur road champion in 1948 and had also won a stage in the Tour of Limburg. At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 , eight drivers crossed the finish line together in the road race, with Frenchman José Beyaert winning ahead of Dutchman Gerrit Voorting ; Lode Wouters came in third in front of his compatriot Leon De Lathouwer . The team ranking was determined according to the added times of the three best drivers in a country, here Lode Wouters and Leon De Lathouwer won the gold medal together with Eugène Van Roosbroeck ahead of the British and the French.

In the next two years Wouters remained successful as an amateur driver, in 1949 he won a round race in the Netherlands, in 1950 he finished second in the Limburg Tour. On May 30, 1951, he began his professional career with the Alcyon racing team. In 1951 he won two races, the following year he was victorious in three races and in the first stage of Across Belgium , where he finished second in the overall standings. In 1953 he ended his career.
