Jan Jozef Alfons Franciscus Krekels (born August 26, 1947 in Sittard ) is a former Dutch cyclist and Olympic champion .

As an amateur , Jan Krekels was very successful: At the Olympic Games in Mexico in 1968 he won the gold medal in the team time trial , together with Joop Zoetemelk , René Pijnen and Fedor the Hertog ; in the single road race he was eleventh. He had previously recommended himself through his victories at the Tour of Austria and other races such as the Ronde van Overijssel and the Omloop der Kempen .

In 1969, Krekel turned pro . He won the Eight van Chaam in 1970 and the Ruta del Sol in 1972 . In 1977 he became Dutch runner-up in road racing. He started three times in the Tour de France , in 1971 he won the 19th stage. The 50th place in 1971 was his best result in the overall individual ranking.
