Harald Morscher (born June 22, 1972 in Hohenems , Vorarlberg ) a former Austrian cyclist and later sports director .

Cyclist

As an amateur, Morscher won, among other things, a stage and the overall ranking at the Tour of Austria in 1994. In 1997 he was Austrian mountain champion and second in the state championship in road racing . Morscher also won three stages of the Austrian stage race Vienna-Gresten-Vienna . In 1996 he started the road race at the Olympic Games in Atlanta and finished 46th.

In 1998 Morscher received a contract with the Italian cycling team Saeco , for which he achieved a second stage position at Paris-Nice as the best result . In 2000 he moved to Germany for Team Nürnberger , then back to Austria, where he was under contract with Elk Haus for a year . He celebrated one of his greatest successes with the Volksbank team in 2004 when he won the national championship title in Großraming ahead of Christian Pfannberger and Georg Totschnig . In the same year Morscher was nominated by the Austrian Cycling Association as one of four drivers for the road race of the road world championships in Verona . When the Volksbank team first achieved the status of a Professional Continental Team in 2006 , Morscher became co-owner and, in addition to his work as a racing driver, was also involved in management tasks.

Harald Morscher took part in the Tour of Austria 16 times as a driver. Only once did he not reach the finish line due to an illness-related absence.

Sports director

After the 2009 season, Morscher ended his active career and switched to team management as sports director. On July 1, 2010, Morscher took over from Thomas Kofler as the team manager of what is now the Continental Team Vorarlberg-Corratec , but left the team's management after the 2011 season and was appointed by Hans-Michael Holczer as manager for the junior teams of the ProTeams Katyusha brought in. During the Tour of Austria 2015 , Morscher acted as team coordinator, responsible for communication with all participating teams. For the 2017 season he became the sporting director of the newly founded Bahrain-Merida team .
