Helmut Wechselberger

Helmut Wechselberger (born February 12, 1953 in Jerzens ) is a former Austrian cyclist .

Career

As a late entry into cycling , he was able to celebrate many successes among amateurs as well as professionals and was able to enter himself into the winners' lists of numerous cycling races. In 1987 he drove with the Austrians Johann Lienhart , Bernhard Rassinger and Mario Traxl to third place overall in the 100 km team time trial at the UCI Road World Championships in Villach , in the road race he finished 61st place. In 1988 he won the Tour de Suisse with a lead of 1:25 minutes over Canadian Steve Bauer . At the time of this victory, Wechselberger was over 35 years old and thus the oldest winner of the Tour de Suisse (as of 2013).

As a professional, Wechselberger drove in the same era as the Swiss racing cyclists Urs Zimmermann and Tony Rominger . The multiple winner of the Tour of Austria has been working as a banker since the end of his career .
