Paul Wellens (cyclist)
Paul Wellens (* 27. June 1952 in Hasselt ) is a former Belgian professional - cyclists . He began his career in 1976 without having been able to celebrate any notable successes in the first few years. It wasn't until 1977 that he was able to win the first professional race. His greatest success was winning the Tour de Suisse in 1978, 18 seconds ahead of the Swiss Ueli Sutter . Wellens did not win a stage. Wellens ended his career in 1985.
Paul Wellens is the older brother of Johann and Leo Wellens and the uncle of Yannick and Tim Wellens . He is trained as a primary school teacher.
