Luc Roosen (born September 17, 1964 in Opglabbeek , Flanders ) is a former cyclist. He was a professional from 1986 to 1997.

Athletic career

Roosen became a professional in Jan Raas' team in 1986 . In the first year could achieve two eighth places in the overall ranking at the Tour of Belgium and the Critérium du Dauphiné . In 1988 Roosen was sixth in Liège-Bastogne-Liège and fourth in the Grand Prix de Wallonie . He finished the Tour de Suisse in 15th place overall and a stage win. In the second half of the year he finished fifth in the championship of Zurich , second in Druivenkoers Overijse and third in Milan-Turin and fourth in the Tour of Lombardy . In 1989 he came third in the Tour of Lombardy . 1990 Roosen had a successful first half of the year with fifth place at Liège – Bastogne – Liège and second place at Amstel Gold Race , where he was beaten only by Adrie van der Poel in the sprint . He had already felt like a winner and had raised his arms in victory when van de Poel drove past him. He finished third in the Tour de Romandie and won a stage each at the Critérium du Dauphiné and the Tour de Suisse . In 1991 he celebrated his greatest success at the Tour de Suisse in 1991 , where, in addition to a stage win, he also won the overall standings. He prevailed against Pascal Richard by just 33 seconds . In the same year he finished the championship in Zurich in ninth place.

In 1992 Roosen could not achieve any victories, but was able to place well in many races. He finished third at the Giro del Friuli , fifth at the Amstel Gold Race , seventh at La Flèche Wallonne , eighth Grand Prix des Amériques , ninth at the road world championships in Benidorm and tenth at the Wincanton Classic . In the next few years Roosen could not achieve any further good results apart from second place in the Tour of Andalusia in 1994, third place in Gent-Wevelgem in 1995, 2nd place in the Tour of Austria including a stage win and a 4th place in Pfeil von Brabant 1997. After the 1997 season he ended his professional career.
