Roland was a Belgian cycling team that existed from 1978 to 1988.
history
The team was founded in 1978 under the direction of Florent Vanvaerenbergh. In the very first year, the team was able to achieve a stage win at the Vuelta a España 1978 and a second place at Nationale Sluitingprijs and a third place at Schaal Sels Merksem . In the next few years some successes were achieved, including the two victories at Bordeaux-Paris in 1980 and 1981. In 1982 the team was able to achieve three stages as well as second place in the overall standings at the 1982 Vuelta a España . In 1984 three stages in the Vuelta a España 1984 and the Meta Volantes rating were won again. During the Tour of Flanders in 1987, Jesper Skibby , who was in the lead, fell on the Koppenberg and his bike was run over by the jury's car . The team was able to win a stage in their only participation in the Tour de France . In 1988 good results were achieved with Omloop Het Nieuwsblad , Tour des Alpes-Maritimes et du Var and a stage win in the Tour de Suisse , but at the end of the season the team broke up.
doping
Dietrich Thurau was tested positive for prohibited stimulants after the eighth stage of the Tour de France 1987 and received a 10-minute time penalty, was banned for a month and had to pay a fine of 5,000 francs. When the positive result became known, Thurau had already canceled the Tour de France .
