Colnago is an Italian manufacturer of racing bike frames , cross-country frames , mountain bike frames , track frames and also time trial frames . In 1954 Ernesto Colnago founded the company, of which he was managing director for many years. In 2020 Colnago was sold to Chimera Investments LLC , based in Abu Dhabi .
Many of the frames in the product range are almost entirely handcrafted at the headquarters in Cambiago , Italy and have hand-painted decals , among other things . However, since around 2003, frames (mainly cheaper models) as well as frame parts and forks (especially carbon components) have been built or purchased from various manufacturers in the Far East . In 2010, the brand, which previously specialized in racing bike frames, also had a mountain bike in its range. The model with the designation "Rock" had a carbon frame and attachments from the high-end area and was intended to appeal to the community from the off-road area.
Colnago opposes established trends in the cycling industry: For example, integrated tax rates or very steeply sloping top tubes were not implemented, but rather “classic” frame technology was used. Nevertheless, modern high-tech materials are used. Together with Ferrari , Colnago developed new carbon technologies for bicycle frame construction in the 1980s and 1990s . An example are the carbon frames of the C series, which are very stiff and light and have a classic look. The C-series is named after the company age.
Cycling
Colnago no longer supplied UCI ProTeams in the 2009 season after Rabobank and Team Milram as well as the UCI Professional Continental Team and Team Tinkoff Credit Systems were supplied in 2008 , but concentrates on various works teams and other smaller teams such as Team Europcar from France .
In 2012 the road cycling teams Team Europcar , Colnago-CSF Inox and Team Type 1-Sanofi rode Colnago bikes. Colnago bikes are currently used by the UCI WorldTeam UAE Team Emirates.
"Colnago Sport" brand
Bikes with the label and decal "Colnago Sport" were manufactured by Velosport in the mid-1980s exclusively for their own brand. The frames were partly produced in Italy and u. a. Equipped with Gipiemme dropouts .
