Beat Breu (born October 23, 1957 in St. Gallen ) is a former Swiss cyclist and cyclist .

Cycling career

Beat Breu's professional career began in the 1970s, first in cyclo-cross sports . Then he switched to the street, but stayed true to the bike. Breu is one of the most successful cyclists in Switzerland. He won the Tour de Suisse in 1981 and 1989 , the championship in Zurich in 1981 and two mountain stages at the Tour de France in 1982 , including the one on the legendary L'Alpe d'Huez , and third place in the mountain price classification . He was then nicknamed "Mountain Flea". Breu drove for the former team Cilo. In 1995 he announced his retirement from cycling.

When he took part in the Tour de Suisse in 1979, Breu was disqualified for doping.

On July 17, 2007, at the age of 49, Beat Breu made a comeback as a stalker on the open race track in Zurich Oerlikon. In the first race he lost two laps to the winner, in the second race (20 km 71 km / h) it was three. He reached fifth place out of six participants. He prepared this comeback with 4000 km and ten training sessions on the racetrack.

At the Zurich six-day race, he sensationally won the 6th stage of the standing race on January 1, 2008 and celebrated his first victory since his comeback.

On October 14, 2007, Breu started at the international cycling event in Fehraltorf with a special permit in the A-class and named a top 10 placement as his goal. However, he was only third last and downgraded to the B-Class. After two unsuccessful seasons, he announced his final retirement from cycling in November 2009.

Resignation, professional stations and private matters

1995 Breu announced his first resignation. After a few years as a co-organizer of bicycle and cross-bike races, he turned completely away from cycling and was actually a postal worker by profession and tried more than right as a comedian , moderator , operator of a " Wild West brothel " and as a truck spare parts dealer. In 2003 he suffered a stroke and in 2004 he had a heart operation. For years he suffered from severe depression. His short-term marriage of just a few months in 2009 caused a stir in Switzerland.

In August 2019 he founded his own circus, which he dissolved after a few days for various reasons.
