Hermann Gretener

Hermann Gretener (born September 8, 1942 in Bertschikon ) is a former cyclist from Switzerland and multiple national champion in cyclo-cross racing .

Athletic career

In 1960 he started cycling , as a member of the RV Wetzikon (of which he later became an honorary member), he mainly competed in cyclo-cross races from the start. In the 1962/63 season he was able to win ten national competitions. In 1962, with a series of top placements, he also qualified for the then A-class of Swiss amateurs for road races. In 1964 he obtained an independent license in order to be able to compete in professional driver races. In 1966 he won the national championship in cyclo-cross racing and was second in this discipline at the UCI World Championships behind Eric De Vlaeminck . In 1967, 1968, 1972 he was third in the world championships. He won other national titles in cyclo-cross races in 1969, 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1975. Gretener competed several times in the domestic Tour de Suisse , he achieved his best place in 1965 when he was 22nd.

In 1978 he ended his career.

Professional

Gretener is a farmer by profession. After retiring, he opened a bicycle shop in Wetzikon .

Familiar

His brother, Max Gretener , who was one year older, was also active as a cyclist.
