Laurent Dufaux (born May 20, 1969 in Montreux ) is a former Swiss cyclist .

Life

The trained plumber was considered a mountain specialist and was particularly successful on very difficult routes. In 1991 he began his professional career with the Swiss team Helvetia-La Suisse and in 1993 moved to Spain to Once . From 1995 to 1998 he was under contract with Festina . Because of his involvement in the Festina affair during the 1998 Tour de France , he was banned for seven months. He then drove for two Italian teams, from 1999 to 2001 for Saeco , then for Alessio (2002). He ended his career in 2004 as a member of the QuickStep-Davitamon team .

He won the Swiss road championship title (1991), the Dauphiné Libéré (1993 and 1994), the Tour de Romandie (1998) and the Zurich championship (2000). At the Tour de France he was twice fourth in the overall standings (1996, 1999) and twice second in the mountains standings (1996, 2003).
