Serge Demierre

Serge Demierre (born January 16, 1956 in Geneva ) is a former Swiss cyclist .

Athletic career

Serge Demierre was Swiss road champion twice, in 1976 as an amateur and 1983 as a professional. In 1981 he won the Trofeo Baracchi together with Daniel Gisiger and several stages, including the Tour de Suisse , the Tour of Germany and the Tour of Catalonia . In 1976 he took part in the road race at the Olympic Games in Montréal , but had to give up. In 1975 he won the first stage of the GDR tour and was the first to wear the yellow jersey of the leader in the overall standings, in the final classification he was 41.

At the Tour de France in 1983 Demierre was the only Swiss so far to win the title of “most combative driver ”.

Professional

Serge Demierre now runs a bicycle parts shop in Vernier .
