Gérard Saint

Gérard Saint (born July 11, 1935 in Argentan , † March 16, 1960 in Le Mans ) was a French cyclist .

Gérard Saint was considered a promising talent in the second half of the 1950s, and even as an amateur he was able to record numerous victories up to 1954. In 1955 he won the Grand Prix de France , in 1957 the Tour of Luxembourg and the Circuit des Trois Provinces , in 1958 the Circuit de l'Aulne and in 1959 the Manche-Océan . He also took numerous podium places in renowned races, such as third place at the Trofeo Baracchi in 1958 (with Roger Rivière ).

In 1959 Saint finished second near Paris – Nice , started at the road world championships in Zandvoort and turned 40. In the same year, the tall and lanky Saint (1.91 meters, 75 kg) drove the Tour de France and was the first to receive the newly introduced Awarded as the "most combative driver", he finished ninth in the overall standings.

The following year, 24-year-old Gérard Saint was killed when he drove his car into a tree near Le Mans. The stadium in his hometown Argentan now bears his name.
