Erik Dekker

Erik Dekker (born August 21, 1970 in Hoogeveen , the Netherlands ) is a former Dutch cyclist and later a cycling official.

Career

Dekker had his first major success when he won the silver medal at the UCI World Championships for juniors in road racing in 1987. Dekker began his professional career in 1992 with the Buckler cycling team , which was called Word Perfect from 1993 to 1994 , Novell in 1995 and Rabobank since 1996 . After a serious fall (multiple injuries, including severe facial injuries and loss of several teeth) during the third stage of the Tour de France 2006 , Erik Dekker ended his active cycling career and in 2007 switched to the role of sports director at Rabobank.

His most successful year was 2000, in which he managed to win three stages in the Tour de France . But he also scored several victories in the classics .
