Fabio Jakobsen (born August 31, 1996 in Heukelum ) is a Dutch cyclist .
Athletic career
Fabio Jakobsen's parents were already enthusiastic about cycling, which is why they gave their son the first name of Fabio Casartelli , who had died in a fatal accident the year before .
In 2016, Jakobsen first attracted international attention when he won the domestic race Slag om Norg . He was also the Dutch U23 road champion. The following year he recorded several stage wins, such as the Tour de Normandie , the Tour Alsace , the Tour de l'Avenir and the Olympia's Tour . He also won the U23 race at Rund um den Finanzplatz Frankfurt-Eschborn as well as the Ronde van Noord-Holland and was a second time Dutch U23 champion.
In 2018 Jakobsen became a member of the UCI WorldTeam Quick-Step Floors and won Nokere Koerse in spring after finishing fourth at Dwars door Vlaanderen a few days earlier , as well as the Scheldeprijs in the sprint of a larger front field.
On August 5, 2020, Jakobsen fell in the finish sprint of the first stage of the Tour of Poland after Dylan Groenewegen had pushed him into the barriers. Jakobsen seriously injured his head, lost a lot of blood and was placed in an artificial coma in the hospital . His condition has been described as "life threatening". Groenewegen was disqualified for illegal behavior and Jakobsen was declared the winner.
