from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Herman Nankman (born March 3, 1897 in Groningen , † December 29, 1973 also) was a Dutch cyclist .

Herman Nankmann was the Dutch road racing champion in 1922 . He became known at competitions on the cycling track ( Julianabaantje ) in Groningen. In 1927 he became the North Holland champion over 1000 meters on the home trainer . In the same year he ended his professional career, but drove track racing as an amateur until the 1930s.

There is an anecdote about his victory in the national championship: Nankman (nickname: Nankipo ) was in the leading group of the peloton , along with Piet and Klaas van Nek when he realized he had lost his air pump at the time indispensable utensil. He decided to go back, even though he risked being left behind. In the meantime, however, a route assistant had accidentally sent the leading drivers in the wrong direction. Nankman found his pump, drove back as quickly as possible, suddenly took the lead and was the first to cross the finish line.

Nankman later ran a renowned taxi company in his hometown.
