Remarks
a Due to the incorporation of parts of the dissolved communities of Beilen, Oosterhesselen, Ruins and Zuidwolde into Hoogeveen on January 1, 1998, the municipal council elections took place in 1997.

Mayor and alderman

In the period from 2018 to 2022, the coalition will consist of the parties CDA , ChristenUnie and Gemeentebelangen Hoogeveen eo, Gemeentebelangen Hoogeveen eo will contribute two councilors to the college , while the CDA and the ChristenUnie will each have one delegate. Hoogeveen is the seat of the Drents-Overijsselse Coöperatie ( DOC Kaas ), the second largest cheese producer in the Netherlands.

Industry

The story is about the same as that of Emmen : After 1960, the place developed from a small village into an industrial city and regional center. Many small and medium-sized industrial companies from various sectors are located here.

traffic

Hoogeveen is on the Groningen - Zwolle - Amersfoort - Utrecht / Amsterdam railway line and on the motorway between the same cities. In the northeast of the city is the Hoogeveen airfield , which at 1,200 m has the longest grass runway in the Netherlands.

The twin town of Hoogeveen is the town of Martin in Slovakia .

Sports

The city's most famous football clubs are VV Hoogeveen , who became the Dutch amateur Sunday football champion in 1978, and the HZVV . Both play their home games in Bentinckspark .
